We are recruiting for a leading construction consultancy looking to add a Senior Bridge Engineer to their team!
Purpose of the Role-
Becoming a Senior Bridge Engineer with Barnet Highways involves working within the Highways Asset Operations Team for Re Highways and provides a fast paced and challenging workload. This team delivers capital works to improve the condition of the Barnet highways infrastructure. You will be responsible for delivering the Asset Management Programme for the highways structures maintaining and improving the integrity of the assets in accordancewith legislative and best practice guidelines.
A Few Key Responsibilities of the Role-
* To undertake and commission theasset management of the highways structures including the Bridge Assessment Programme.
* To develop programmes of works to ensure effective management of the highways structures, bridges, subways and retaining walls, and identify and seek relevant funding and resources.
* To provide professional, technical support and advice in relation to highways structures to support the delivery of the Council's statutory duties and corporate priorities.
* To lead the successful delivery of highways engineering structural schemes and programmes, from inception through to final completion, including commissioning consultants and contractors as appropriate.
* To undertake Approval in Principle procedures on behalf of the Council (as Technical Approval Authority) for the assessment, modification and new construction of any type of Council owned or private structure on public roads.
* To ensure the necessary technical, administrative and financial approvals are in place for the preparation, supervision and administration of the highways contracts.
* To prepare estimates and lead on the supervision of contracts to ensure compliance with contract specifications, financial regulations, standing orders and the relevant legislation.
* To act as structural consultantto other departments on a range of Council projects of various types and scale, providing designs, advice and technical information from inception to completion when required.
* To ensure that the contractors are delivering quality services in compliancewith specifications, through maintaining adequate records to address non-compliance issues and resulting remedial actions.
*To represent the Council's interests on various inter‑borough or national liaison and technical groups (as appropriate).* To liaise with, where appropriate, other Capita offices, customers and stakeholders, to ensure that work programmes are coordinated and projects are delivered to programme and budget.
* To achieve successful partnership working with public, private and community sector organisations and stakeholders.
* To carry out technical investigations as directed, including the preparation of reports on findings.
Essential Experience of the Role-
* Five years relevant professional work experience inCivil/Highway Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Transportation or equivalent
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation or equivalent
* Excellent structural engineering and asset management knowledge and knowledge of associated IT systems, applications and packages (including Bridge Station)
* Good knowledge of engineering contracts, contract procedures and contract law for delivery of works, including Construction Design and Management Regulations (2017)
* Must be able to demonstratesuitable relevant experience in highways contract supervision, including the preparation of contract bill of quantities, specifications and associated contract documents
* General knowledge of highways and transport policies and associated working knowledge of legislation
* Demonstrable experience of asset management approach
* Experience in financial and cost management
*Experience of surveying and project cost calculation
* Demonstrable customer care skills
Desirable Experience forthe Role-
* Experience of project management methodology e.g. Prince 2
* Experience of stakeholder diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution
* Managing Complex Engineering Projects
* Member of an appropriate high institution (IHT,IHIE,ICEetc)
Sphere of Influence -
As the go-to technical lead for highways structures, you will be responsible for how the service is viewed by stakeholders through the delivery of these projects. You will have responsibility for ensuring the effectiveinspection, assessment and maintenance of highways structures. You will provide professional, technical support and advice in relation to highways structures to support the delivery of the Council's statutory duties and corporate priorities. You will workcollaboratively within and external to your team, including ensuring client, member, customer and stakeholder relationships aremaintained. You will always maintain professional standards and deliver customer service excellence.
