In a massive data leak, a text file was uploaded to the web and contained a total of 8.3 billion passwords and experts warn that this could be one of the biggest breaches in modern history.
In 2009, in what is now known as the RockYou data breach, more than 32 million user passwords were leaked. Speaking about the latest threat, CyberNews said: “By combining 8.4 billion unique password variations with other breach compilations that include usernames and email addresses, threat actors can use the RockYou2021 collection to mount password dictionary and password spraying attacks against untold numbers of online accounts.”
It is important to change your password frequently for each email account you have. If you have any weak passwords or you haven’t updated them in a while, then now is a good time to give each of your accounts a revamp.
A strong password should be longer than 12 characters and include numbers, symbols and both lower and upper cases. We recommend using different passwords for each account.
