This Foodborne Diseases Course – Bacteria and Risky Foods Studyplex is designed to give students a comprehensive overview of foodborne illnesses and how to minimize the risk of contracting or transmitting them. Students will learn about the different types of foodborne illnesses, their identifying characteristics, and their common sources. Through interactive opportunities such as case studies and self-guided activities, students will deepen their understanding of the signs and symptoms of various types of food contamination.
The course will also emphasize the importance of food safety and how to safely handle, prepare, and store foods to help reduce the chance of danger. Exercises will include identifying bacteria in a food sample, tracing the source of an outbreak, and analyzing food labels for accuracy. Students will also gain a better understanding of food industry regulations and practices designed to reduce the risk of an outbreak. Upon completion of the course, students will have a full understanding of foodborne illnesses and can employ the proper precautions to help prevent suffering from one.
