Drooping of the eyelid is called ptosis. Ptosis may result from damage to the nerve that controls the muscles of the eyelid, problems with the muscle strength (as in myasthenia gravis), or from swelling of the lid.
Treatment of ptosis will vary, depending on the root cause. In most cases of where the muscle is stretched or weakened ptosis surgery can be performed to tighten the muscles and lift the eyelid to its normal position. It is important to choose the correct technique to suit the patient’s needs and cosmetic goals.
