Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) is characterized by a tendency for the eyes to be pushed forward (a condition known as "proptosis") and for the eyelids to open too far (lid retraction). TED is an autoimmune condition in which the body’s immune system attacks the tissues of the thyroid gland and the eye socket. After surgery, you may need to take medications such as eye drops, antibiotics, steroids, or painkillers.
