In 5 Weeks Ultrasound Only the gestational sac and the yolk sac should be seen at this point. The embryo, which at this stage is probably a tiny, white, curled object, may be visible to the sonographer. The yolk sac, which will appear as a little white circle, surrounds the embryo. During the first trimester of pregnancy, the yolk sac not only feeds the embryo but also aids in the production of blood cells. A bigger black region called the gestational sac surrounds the yolk sac. Amniotic fluid is present in the gestational sac, which encloses the embryo. As early as 4 1/2 to 5 weeks into pregnancy, an ultrasound may reveal the gestational sac.
