Description:

Lead improvements in proactive safety management through confidence and thorough knowledge of the industry and approved practices and actioning non-compliances appropriately.
Lead and drive safety initiatives and proactively manage, promote, and drive the company Zero Tolerance for Safety Non-Compliance policy.
Embed appropriate standards and culture in all company workplaces while encouraging, enabling, and empowering personnel to work safely.
Support line managers to execute their responsibilities under the SHWWA 2005. Maintain ISO 45001 standard. The successful candidate will be able to strongly demonstrate their experience in never compromising safety regardless of business consequences.
The main duties and responsibilities of the role will include the following;
* Champion and leader for H&S within the Business Unit promoting compliance and ensuring non-compliances are escalated to relevant management level to achieve solutions. Support the Head of EHS, as requested, on corporate Safety initiatives and projects.
* Proactively manage, support, and enablethe improvement of H&S KPI's as per Business Unit and SMS requirements e.g. Accident reduction, Inspections, remedial actionstatus etc.
* Establish a benchmark standard for H&S KPI's using leading industry levels and improve the H&S Culturein to reduce accident occurrence, increase H&S compliance and improve KPI performance.
* Ensure that systems are in placefor the provision of appropriate training, information, and knowledge to all employees, to ensure that their work activities arecarried out in a safe manner.
* Responsible for facilitating and conducting on-going safety training for all employees in thebusiness, and ensuring systems are in place to support new employees (including agency personnel) receiving timely inductions prior to commencing their role. Management of the Training Management system in a format that is consistent across all sites.
*Liaising with and providing the support to relevant personnel in sites, to ensure that they are adequately equipped and have relevant systems to also provide training to people on their sites. Develop a toolbox talks programme.
* Ensure all accidents, Dangerous Occurrence and Motor accidents are reported, investigated, and followed up as per SMS requirements to reduce the likelihood of recurrence. Work with the H&S team and relevant managers to ensure all employees have received mandatory training and ensure training is managed as per the SMS.
* Ensure the utilisation of appropriate occupational health surveillance programmes. Plan and ensure the execution of the annual H&S Inspections programme in line with Support, lead and enforce the Zero Tolerance for Safety Non-Compliances aim.
* Manage and conduct regular programme of audits/inspections in line with corporate requirements to evaluate site compliance, identify and implement improvements and support the system for closing out remedial actions. Ensures Site Managers and Supervisors are actively engaged in the audit process and all Health & Safety systems.
* Ensure audit programme covers the high-risk area's and locations and includes the auditing of compliance against the contractor management policy and vendor management.
* Ensure all legal obligation for H&S and relevant best practices within are identified and communicated effectively to management and the wider Senior Management team in when required.
* Ensure H&S inspections are completed to confirm compliance with H&S legal and company requirements.
* Ensure a robust non-conformities procedure to include follow ups as per SMS requirements. Ensure all H&S Documentation is in line with legal and company requirements and as per Document control (SMS) e.g. Safety Statements. Development of H&S reports as per SMS and company requirements.
* Ensure SOPs are up to date and in line with Company policy and SMS e.g. Risk Assessment procedures.
* Support, direct and enable line management to execute their responsibilities relating to safety management of their direct reports e.g. advise ontraining requirements, risk assessments, SOPs.
* Ensure the utilisation of appropriate occupational health surveillance programmes.
* Ensure all contractors in all sites are engaged via the Contractor policy and legal requirements. Ensure systems arein place with appropriate training to ensure relevant persons can adequately monitor this.
* Ensure provision of support and systematic management for the successful integration of safety committees and associated meetings on all Sites. Ensure all safetycommittee meetings have clear action points and follow-up reviews. Actively engage with safety representatives from the Recycling Business.
* Co-operate, support, and encourage participation for all H&S Awareness campaigns, competitions, and programmes as per SMS requirements and develop specific focused campaigns, competitions and programmes as required.
* Ensure the H&S officers within create communication channels with relevant supervisors and managers to proactively advise on H&S compliance requirements and remedial actions.
* Lead the internal safety communications for the Business to include but not limitedto: Safety Notice board standards, safety memo's/ alerts management, recording of communications, use of online Platforms, frequency, and management of Toolbox talks.
* Ensure all internal and external health and safety reporting requirements are complied with, in consultation with the Head of EHS when required liaise with the H.S.A, insurance and liability adjusters on occupational injury claims and all relevant regulators who audit and inspect sites and activities within and manage any remedial actions/recommendations through to completion and reporting. Personal maintenance of CPD.
* Lead and Performance Manage your direct report(s). Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team's objectives.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualification, skills, knowledge, and attributes;
Minimum 8 yearsManagerial experience
Level 8 Degree in Health & Safety
Good Report Writing Skills / Proficient in MS Office
Good Written and Verbal English essential.
Must be flexible to work across different work sections within the business.
Proficiency in the English language is a requirement alongside eligibility to work in Ireland.
Experience in the Services/ Manufacturing or Waste Industries a distinct advantage
