Horticulturist Department Head - Carlow
Job Summary:
The horticulturistposition plays a key role in supporting our customers with expert advice on plants and gardening products. You will be responsible for maintaining the health and appearance of plants in our garden centre, assisting with inventory management, and providingexceptional customer service to help customers with their outdoor spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
* Customer Service: Provide expert advice to customers on plant care, gardening, and landscaping, helping them make informed decisions for their gardensand outdoor spaces.
* Plant Care: Oversee the health and maintenance of the garden centre's plant stock, including watering,pruning, and pest management.
* Product Knowledge: Stay current with the latest trends in horticulture, gardening products, and techniques to offer customers accurate and current information.
* Merchandising: Assist in creating attractive plant displays and arrange plants to maximize sales and showcase various gardening themes.
* Inventory Management: Monitor plant stock levels, assist with ordering, and ensure that plants are well-stocked, labelled, and priced correctly.
* Seasonal Responsibilities: Manage seasonal shifts in plant availability, customer demand, and garden centre displays, ensuring smooth transitions throughchanging seasons.
* Team Collaboration: Work closely with the garden centre team to ensure the store is well-organised and customer-focused.
Requirements:
* Proven experience as a Horticulturist or in a similar role, preferably within a retail garden centre environment.
* Strong knowledge of plants, composts, fertilisers & chemicals, garden tools, and gardening techniques.
* Excellent customer service and communication skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail in maintaining plant care and inventory.
* A passion for plants and gardening with a proactive, enthusiastic approach to the role.
* A relevant horticultural qualification is preferred but not required.
