PHARMACY OVER THE COUNTER ASSISTANT FULL-TIME - West Co.Galway
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of a family-run and independent pharmacy team.
PURPOSE OF ROLE
*To be the first point of contact for all customers.
* To serve customers appropriately, sensitively and confidentially.
* Toprovide the best possible advice regarding over the counter products and remedies and refer patients to the pharmacist if appropriate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* To ensure that the pharmacy environment is welcoming, clean and professional.
* To greetcustomers in a professional and friendly manner.
* To accurately complete financial transactions with customers.
* To havecompleted the IPU Pharmacy Counter Assistant course or work towards doing so once the role is commenced (this will be a requirement)
* To respond sensitively and appropriately to symptoms described by customers by following agreed protocols and using your own knowledge and judgement.
* To know and understand the main features of stocked lines and the benefits to customers.
*To select and recommend suitable products and provide advice on their correct use.
* To refer to the pharmacist when appropriate.
* To receive prescriptions from customers and ensure they reach the dispensary in a timely manner.
* To accurately communicate any messages from customers about their prescription needs to the pharmacist
* To inform the customer of approximate waiting times and to manage their expectations during busy periods.
* To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed itemsto patients.
* To identify medicine-related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist.
* To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where it is within your competence.
* To receive stock in accordancewith SOPs.
* To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines.
* To assist with stock control and the maintenance ofreasonable stock levels within the retail environment.
* To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of over the counter remedies andminor ailments.
* To have a good knowledge of the supplements available in the pharmacy and the benefits they provide
* Tohave an appreciation of the fact that a pharmacy is not the same as other retail establishments and professional conduct is required at all times.
* Recognition that confidentiality and patient safety are at the core of all pharmacy activities.

* Experience working in a pharmacy settingis desirable and a big advantage
* Intrinsically motivated to continue enhancing knowledge of over the counter remedies and minor ailments
* Experience handling money and maintaining financial records.
NOTES ABOUT ROLE
Successful candidates willbe employed on a probationary period of three months initially.
A 45-hour working week with a 1-hour lunch break Monday to Friday.
The IPU Over the Counter Assistant Online course will be a requirement if not already completed.
