Description:
The Head of Category is responsible for leading a team of procurement professionals to develop relationships with external suppliers and NHS Category Towers, as well as internally with operational and corporate departments. This role requires the Head of Category to leverage the market and service knowledge of the category team to deliver procurements and contracts that maximize value for money while complying with internal governance requirements and relevant legislation. The Head of Category will also ensure ongoing contract management by providing specialist procurement advice to operational and corporate departments.
Key responsibilities include:
* Effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels to deliver project/program objectives.* Build and maintain the reputation of the procurement service as a highly professional and enabling business partnering service.
* Champion procurement and promote the benefits of leading procurement practices.
* Develop and deliver commercial procurement strategies that cover multiple divisions requiring supplier innovation, senior stakeholder engagement, and/or market building/shaping.
* Carry out procurements for contracts that require analysis, comparison, and assessment.
* Critically assess markets and competitive behaviour undertaken by all suppliers within relevant categories and take action to improve or protect theTrust's interests across the whole contract life-cycle.
* Provide specialist procurement advice to operational and corporatedepartments to support ongoing contract management.
* Extract and analyze procurement data to inform the strategic approach tospecific procurements and identify efficiency opportunities.
* Authorize purchase orders and contracts.
* Lead, develop andmanage the category team, building a collaborative working environment and a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.* Support the learning and development of the category team.
* Attend mandatory training updates as required.
* Participate in the Trust's appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help todeliver any changes in service.
Experience & Skills Requirements
* MCIPS Chartered Professional Status; AND additional professional development through taught courses, seminars, or other workplace experience, equivalent to a master's level qualification or CIPS Level 7 Executive Diploma; OR master's degree in a relevant field e.g. Purchasing, Supply, Logistics, Businessetc.
* Excellent written, oral, and presentational skills.
* Able to present and explain complex commercial matters in formal and other settings to a range of audiences.
* Excellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and good problem-solving abilities.
* High level of competency in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentational software packages.
* Skilled in staff management, staff development, and recruitment.
* Experience in delivering training and developing procurement and commercial awareness in non-specialist staff.
* Experience in procurement leadership positions within a complex, service-delivery-focused organization.
* Knowledge and awareness of developments in NHS Procurement operating model.
* Category knowledge and awarenessappropriate to the category team.
Overall, the Head of Category will be responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies that deliver value for money while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal governance requirements. This role requires excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to lead and managea team effectively. The Head of Category will also need to keep up-to-date with developments in NHS procurement and ensure ongoing learning and development for themselves and their team.
