Description:
My client has a requirement for a Procurement Manager to be responsible for setting a clear and compelling strategy for allocated category and delivering against it, ensuring that maximum value and innovation are realised through our supply chain. The role will be responsible for continuously driving improved category strategies by working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to leverage business and market insight.
You and your team will be responsible for developingthe strategies and leading all strategic procurement activities required for all major construction projects. These projects are of critical importance to ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, security of our network, ensuring good value formoney for our customers. The role will lead a team of buyers in the delivery of complex strategies and strategic sourcing and will be responsible for developing procurement best practice for this category.
Key Accountabilities
Lead on the development of the strategy and implementation plan for a specific category, ensuring:
* Maximum value is being driven from the category with regards to supplier spend, volume leverage, quality, forecasting efficiency, and innovation.
* Ways to unlock the fullvalue potential within the procured spend base within the category are identified, implemented and, as applicable, learnings are shared across other categories.
* A systematic approach to managing spend for the category is adopted - leveraging areas ofcommon spend.
* Own the delivery of a portfolio of strategic sourcing events within allocated category area, working with stakeholders to plan and prioritise workload and challenge demand, identifying best sourcing strategies and delivering events from market engagement through to award.
* Undertake research and analysis to profile the characteristics of allocated category - including external analysis of supply markets and supplier trends - to inform the category management planning process, ensuring opportunities to drive value are leveraged and that risks (i.e., around supply shortage, etc.,) are identified and mitigated.
*Work with Contract Managers to ensure successful development of commercial strategies, handover and setup for delivery identifying continuous improvement opportunities through engagement with suppliers and stakeholders, and maximising value for money fromcontracts awarded.
* Understand the future requirements of the business and ensure this is factored into the category forwardplanning to deliver maximum supplier spend efficiencies through volume leverage, forecast buying, supplier innovation, exploitation of non-traditional markets and optioneering.
* Drawing on Buyers and working with Contract Managers, scope and develop robust, fit-for-purpose and value-adding contractual agreements that meet the needs of the National Grid business.
* Report on allocated category performance (and sub-categories), reporting this view into the Senior Category Manager to drive awareness of spend, opportunities.
Experience & Skills Requirements
* Experience of broad, supply chain management in complex enterprise environments.
* Has the ability to teach Category Management & Strategic Sourcing to an expert level within their teams.
* Track record of driving value beyond straightforward procurement savings in areas of value engineering, usage of lean techniques to identify and eliminate waste and identify income opportunities in the extended value chain.
* Demonstration of strong project management principles and evidence of managing multiple projects and consistently delivering outstanding results.* Experience of developing robust commercial contracting strategies for construction contracts. Experience with NEC contracts would be ideal.
* Experience of developing and negotiating construction forms of contract and ensuring commercial value and performance is driven through major contracts.
* Good understanding of broader business objectives and the implications of strategic planning and actions within the category.
* Expert influencing & negotiation skills to drive optimum value through theaward of commercially sound contracts.
* Relationship management experience, skilled at developing and working through multi-disciplinary teams.
