Linux Systems Administrator
Fully Remote Working or onsite in Birmingham or Halifax
Salary Up to £42,000 per annum Plus Benefits
This superb Software corporate develops, manages & hosts their Technology solutions for their global Insurance customers and therefore has to ensure their IT environment is robust, efficient & secure at all times. Through growth, the company is now seeking an additional Linux System Administrator / Linux Engineer tojoin their skilled team to work with RHEL, CentOS, Alma & Ubuntu systems, using both physical & virtual servers.
TheLinux System Administrator / Linux Engineer can work fully remotely from anywhere within the UK as the company typically asks their Engineers to come into the office (Birmingham & Halifax) for meetings/briefings just once or twice a quarter. There willalso be the occasional need to visit their Data Centres in the Home Counties & London as work or projects require.
Offering interesting & ongoing challenges, the Linux System Administrator / Linux Engineer will enjoy a blend of both ongoing BAUchallenges & project work.
Key Role Aspects:
* Maintain and manage an estate of ~250 Linux servers ranging from virtual to physical servers. (various OS versions including RHEL / Centos / Alma and Ubuntu)
* Have a keen interest in Automationusing Ansible and be able to drive forward automation solutions and provide recommendations to the business
* Ensure antivirus, inventory tools and monitoring tools (Solarwinds, Dynatrace) are up to date on the Linux platforms
* Undertake upgrades andLinux OS maintenance work as and when required - including regular patches to the Linux estate
* Maintain and implement quality documentation in accordance with internal policies and procedures
* Able to help design and implement high level documentation
* Follow a formal change control process & ensure compliance with ISO standards
* Provide advice on best practice, contribute and technically lead project delivery on occasions
Required skills and experience:
* The ideal candidate will have a solid background as a Linux System Administrator / Linux Engineer.
* Good experience of managing & supporting RHEL, CentOS, Alma or Ubuntu Linux with the desire to learn & grow their skills across any OS they currently lack experience with.* Enjoy good Automation skills using Ansible and Ansible Playbooks, YAML skills are a distinct advantage
* Another bonus would be experience of Cassandra data stack but this is only desirable so no worries if you don't have this
* Good virtualisationskills ideally using VMWare
* Linux & VMWare certifications or demonstrable extensive experience in BAU & security* Working knowledge of SAN storage, Citrix & Microsoft stacks is beneficial
* Good problem solving skills combined with good attention to detail
* Able to provide Out of Hours cover as part of a rota
Desirable Skills:
* Server hardware experience
* Strong scripting experience & skills
* Experience within an ITIL environment
* Exposure to inventory management tools / Cassandra database stack / Commvault backup beneficial
* Desire to continue to develop own skills and mentor other colleagues within the infrastructure team
