Description:

On behalf of an IT Managed Services provider, I am looking to hire a Principal Engineer (Infrastructure and Network Security) to support a major security anddefence end client.

Location: Mostly Remote with very occasional visit to site

IR35 Status: Awaiting SDS

*You must hold a valid Security Clearance for this role*

Typically, you will be responsible for:

* Selection and implementation and test of Unidirectional Gateways.
* Knowledge of NCSC Architecture and guidance on Import and Export Patterns, and their
application to cross-domain solutions.
* Preparation of technical security solutions for formal accreditation.
* Provide technicalguidance to other engineers and support the engineering management
team in planning and controlling specialist activities.* Applying your subject matter expertise and domain experience to good systems engineering practices, to support the EngineeringManager (EM) and Delegated Technical Authority (dTA) in delivering network security solutions for defence programmes of work.* Develop and provide subject matter expertise and advice to other functional and capability areas to support overall project delivery and performance.
* Have a good understanding of the principles of high threat gateways and will be able to reference the relevant architectural guidance, industry & defence standards and maritime legislation where applicable. They will develop an understanding of the customer and user needs of the product system and how this will influence and impact design activities, technical and operational performance.
* Be able to understand and contribute to the reporting of the programme status for engineering activities, identify problem areas and implement recovery plans. This will include the management of any consequent change embodiment activities.

Skills/Experience required:

* Infrastructure hardware (physical rack mounted equipment) andvirtualisation technologies at hardware and container levels.
* Administration functions within a virtualised environment - including virtual resource management, resilience (HA & DRS), clustering and performance monitoring, understanding of containerised or micro-service architectures.
* Orchestration and deployment tools (automation, scripting).
* Understanding of Agileand Scrum project frameworks desirable but not essential
* Server operating system administration (Windows, Linux knowledge particularly useful).
* Understanding of configuration and management of hardware and software based networks.
* Network architectures and topologies, and switching, routing and firewalls.
* Ability to respond to technical queries and perform troubleshooting investigations where necessary, with full root-cause analysis and rectification plan creation.
* Experience of workingunder change control processes.
* An understanding or experience of Information Assurance and it's principles would also be considered an advantage.
* Ideally you will already have, or be willing to develop a working knowledge of high threat gateways,including principles, architecture and products and will have an understanding of the direction of potential future technologies.
* Experience of cross-domain solutions in Operational Technology infrastructure or ideally the UK defence environment wouldbe considered a significant advantage.
* You will be educated to Degree level, or equivalent with relevant experience.
* Strong knowledge of network security principles in the defence, maritime or closely linked domain and have a comprehensive understanding of how their own systems and activities interact with the overall platform.
* Knowledge of the complete engineering lifecycle with some experience of working in agile teams.
* A strong awareness of Product Safety and SHE.
