Description:
My client are a prestigious government organisation based in Cardiff, South Wales. They are seeking a Senior Data Scientist on a contractual basis, initially until the end of March 2022. Extensions are highly probable.The position can be done remotely, and has been deemed to fall 'inside' IR35. The day rate on offer is £450.00 - £625.00 per day, depending on experience.
Senior Data Scientist (Intelligence and Enforcement) job specification
Key responsibilitiesof the post include:
* Work with Intelligence and Enforcement policy and operation teams to understand where data science can add value.
* Source, access, manipulate and engineer data processes with large volumes of varied data.
* Build credible statistical models from the data and use the best coding practices to generate reproducible work
* Adhere to the data science ethics framework to ensure fair, transparent, auditable and accountable automated decision making
* Propagate data science skills in Intelligence and Enforcement team, understanding the variety of functional roles relating to data science and how they canbe most effectively applied to solve business problems
* Are open minded and demonstrate strong intellectual curiosity
* Have an interdisciplinary focus, using techniques and knowledge from across the scientific spectrum
* Explore and visualise the data to present the 'story' of data in a meaningful way and to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
* Use an evolving range of data analysis tools and techniques, including open source, some of which must be learnt quickly, as and when required
* Continuously seek to expand a range of technical skills in addition to their communications development
Person specification and essential/desirable criteria:
* Strong programming experience of coding practices to build scalable data products(at least one of Python, R, scala or sparks)
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (ideally AWS) and associated technology tools(Infrastructure as Code, cloud storage, on-demand)
* Expertly skilled at identifying efficient and effective ways to use datascience to tackle Intelligence and Enforcement challenges and applying innovative techniques.
* Experience of turning complexdata into compelling, clear and actionable stories, presenting analysis and recommendations for action in easily understandableand engaging ways including online dashboards and other data visualisations.
* Cloud platform and tools familiarity (Infrastructure as Code, storage)
* Understanding of data science products lifecycle and MLOps familiarity
* Understands and shares the ethical considerations of potential data science approaches and the applicable legislation (Data Protection Act, Digital Economy Act,…) to ensure ethical use of data science in the I&E service
* Presents, communicates and disseminates data science products with technical and non-technical member of the Intelligence and Enforcement team to achieve and measure impact.
