Overview:
In 2006, the Chinese Government initiated the enrollment of international students in medical programs conducted in English at Chinese universities. Since then, students have had the opportunity to pursue their MBBS degree in China. Since 2013, studying MBBS in China has gained popularity among Indian students.
To uphold quality standards, certain medical schools in China are allocated specific quotas for admitting international students to these English-language programs. Although other Chinese medical universities are not restricted from accepting international students, the Government mandates that these students must enroll in medical programs conducted in Chinese. This created an issue as many agents began sending Indian students to China for the Chinese Medicine Program (TCM) without adequately informing them.
Are Medical Schools in China Compliant with NMC Regulations?
Understanding whether one can practice medicine in India after completing MBBS in China is crucial. Until 2018, over 214 medical universities in China admitted students to medical programs (MBBS) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) programs in both English and Mandarin. However, many Indian agents attempted to enroll students in the TCM program instead of the MBBS Program. In 2019, the Chinese Government authorized international students to enroll exclusively in English-taught MBBS Programs.
MCI recognized 45 medical universities in China offering English-taught Programs. Following the establishment of the National Medical Commission (NMC), there is no longer a specific list of NMC-recognized medical colleges in China. Instead, all 45 medical universities in China comply with the NMC's regulations. Therefore, students can confidently pursue their MBBS studies at any of these institutions without concerns about their recognition status.
